ReplyDeleteIt's 'Koana' take me awhile to answer that one!
ReplyDeleteTo tell you is to miss the 'aha' experience and you will have to settle for the 'ohhh, I see' experience.
ReplyDeleteHere's a hint: View it from a metaphoric perspective with 'Why' as a manifested entity.
'Because it is!'
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by how many links there are online to pages with a thousand different responses to that question. Almost no one knows that it is in fact a very old zen koan, from the late 16 or early 1700s. There is indeed a correct answer (actually several closely related variations) but I have never seen it posted anywhere, which I suppose is appropriate given that it is a koan. Only one who has done the inner work will develop the truth sense to see the proper response. Then that person will need to have their response acknowledged by their zen master. That is as it should be. Anybody who says the higher the fewer is talking through their hat. All the other explanations are invented too. How funny.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon...yes, it is an old koan. One of my favorites.
