For us on this side of the pale moon, the words of Jim Croce ran truer still: "write on the cross at the head of my grave "for women & whiskey, here lies a poor slave "take warning, dear stranger, take warning, dear friend "then write in big letters these words at the end:
"Cigarettes, whiskey, and wild wild women They'll drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane."
Why do I get the feeling that there is more to this than just these few words? The word 'love', hmmm . . . of course there are those who teach 'love' making as a way to the realization of something greater than ego ;-)
Jorge: But what a way to go! Cigs, whisky and wild women is not my lifestyle...what I feel Ikkyu is talking about is passion. Many monks who sit zazen without passion, without finding delight in sitting are wasting their time. Making one good night of love is much better. Great to hear from you.
Doug: Is that the path of tantric yoga? Ikkyu, like some masters of the way, perhaps could eat drink and be merry without the karmic buildup us mere mortals would create...who knows. Thanks.

Thanks for visiting. My Dharma name is Shinzen. I began studying Goshindo Karate under the watchful eye of Shihan Paul Dean in 1969. Yes, I now have gray hair. I am also Lay-ordained in Soto Zen under the tutelage of Rev. Nonin Chowaney of the Nebraska Zen Center.

Yes Shinzen, True Tantra is about love between a couple, but the westernized world turns everything into sexual gratification ;-)
