Have you ever noticed that nature has a pace and a rythm? It is neither fast nor slow, hurried or dawdling, anxious or calm. It is always 'moving' (this from a human perspective who is stuck on a fixed self).
How can we harmonize with this pace, this rythmic beat of wind, sun, moon, stars, water, fire, rain, tornadoes, floods, droughts, etc? Not really sure....all I know is that when it is hot, I sweat. when it is cold, I shake...when it tornadoes, I go to my basement....when my butt itches, I scratch it (hey, I am part of nature too!)
Nature is neat. We've been having lots of rain this summer. Last year hardly a drop. I wonder what the fall will bring...I know my garden is thriving, except for the corn being flattened by 60 mph winds a few nights ago...and shattering my glass topped patio table by lifting it and shoving into the rails of my deck. Ah..nature. She is so gentle :)
Nose tickles...
Hands palm to palm,
Shinzen

Another thing:
ReplyDeleteNature always balances itself :)
Hi Rizal, yes, nature balances itself...but maybe, it only seems that way because we, as humans, are out of balance. Nature is always just 'is'. It treats all of us 'straw dogs' as the old saying goes. Just a thought. I always appreciate your insights.
ReplyDeleteOuch, you got me for good! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky to have grown up in the mountains of Colorado, so nature has always been apart of me. I think connecting with nature and harmonizing with it requires deep listening, watching and touching it.
ReplyDeleteWe can discover this without living near a wild forest--just a mindful visit at a city park can bring great peace. I find such interconnection when I sit in a pine forest and listen to the pines whisper to me as the winds blow through them.
I think mindfulness of nature is very helpful in understanding why we should protect her.
Touching the rough bark really drives home the presence of that tree and it's right to exist there. Great post...I always love posts that draw our attention and respect to nature because without her we'd all be in serious trouble.
P.S. - You're right Shinzen that we are the ones out of balance -- not nature.
Thanks James. Yes, we need to be mindful of nature and remembering we are a part of her...to nurture nature and appreciate her...hey, you're right, our lives do depend on it.
ReplyDeleteRizal: It's okay...There's no gotcha...just a different way of looking...and I know your are different! :)
